The best support tool for small and medium-sized B2B SaaS companies
StayUpfront is the best support tool for small and medium-sized B2B SaaS companies. A B2B team needs one inbox the whole team can work, sensible first drafts, a help centre and a portal customers can log into. And it needs a price that doesn't grow every time someone else helps answer tickets. StayUpfront does all of that, with the whole team included on every plan.
One inbox, Una's first drafts, docs and a branded customer portal for your whole team. And when something breaks, the tickets already know about the incident.
Prices are the vendors' own list prices, checked on 25 October 2026, in US dollars as published. StayUpfront is in pounds, excluding VAT.
The short answer
- Best for small and medium-sized B2B SaaS teams: StayUpfront. Shared inbox, Una, docs and portal in one tool, whole team included, from £79 a month (founding £49).
- Best for email-first support with the nicest inbox: Help Scout.
- Best for live chat and an AI agent in the product: Intercom.
What a small B2B support team needs from its support tool
We judged every tool below on the same six things:
- 1 One shared inbox the whole team can work, with assignment and internal notes.
- 2 Customers as companies, so anyone answering can see what a colleague at the same customer has already asked.
- 3 Help with the first draft that a person still sends.
- 4 A help centre customers can search before they write in.
- 5 A portal where customers see their company's tickets in one place.
- 6 A price that doesn't step up each time another person helps with support.
The everyday support work, in one place
- One inbox for the team. Tickets are assigned to a person or a team, with categories, watchers, @mentions and internal notes. Optional SLAs track first response, next response and resolution. The clock pauses while you wait on the customer, and the real elapsed time is always shown alongside.
- Una, on from day one. Una reads each ticket as it lands, sorts the queue and drafts a reply for your team to review and send. Una sends the first acknowledgement automatically, labelled as coming from Una. Una is on by default and one click from off.
- Customers are companies. A customer is the company and its contacts are the people. Someone logging into the portal sees every ticket their company has raised, so whoever picks up already has the history.
- Docs on the same portal. A searchable help centre, public, customers-only or limited to specific customer groups, at the same address as everything else.
- A portal on your domain. Tickets, docs, API reference, changelog and status at one URL, branded as yours.
What sets it apart: the tickets know about the incident
Every tool here can run a good inbox. The difference shows when something breaks. In StayUpfront the incident, the status page and the tickets are one record. A ticket that lands during an incident already shows it, linked both ways, so whoever answers can tell the customer what's happening without asking around. On-call and monitoring are included on every plan, so the incident can start in the same place.

Per-seat pricing grows with the team.
At five people the per-seat tools above cost between $95 and $195 a month before AI usage, and a sixth person adds one more seat each time. StayUpfront's price follows the customers you support instead. With a handful of people and many thousands of customers, a per-seat tool can be the cheaper shape. The calculator shows where that falls for you.
When another tool is the better buy
- You need live chat on your website or in your app. StayUpfront has no chat widget. Intercom and Crisp are built for it.
- You need WhatsApp, social or phone support in the inbox. Zendesk and Crisp cover channels StayUpfront doesn't.
- You want a large app marketplace. Zendesk has one. StayUpfront has no app marketplace; it has Slack, an API and an MCP server.
- You want to import years of ticket history. StayUpfront has no helpdesk importer yet.
- You're one or two people with very few customers. Help Scout Free (5 users, 100 contacts a month) costs nothing.

Questions people ask
What is the best support tool for a small B2B SaaS company?
We built StayUpfront to be it: a shared inbox, Una's drafts, docs and a customer portal, with the whole team included and incidents linked to tickets. For live chat in the product, Intercom. For email-first support only, Help Scout.
Which helpdesk doesn't charge per seat?
StayUpfront prices by the customer contacts you support, with the whole team included. Crisp prices per workspace with a set number of seats included. Zendesk, Help Scout, Intercom and Freshdesk price per agent or seat.
Is there a free helpdesk for a small team?
Help Scout Free covers 5 users, 1 inbox and 100 contacts a month. Crisp Free covers 2 seats. StayUpfront has a 14-day free trial, with nothing charged until it ends.
Does StayUpfront have AI?
Yes. Una triages every ticket and drafts replies for your team to send, and sends a labelled first acknowledgement automatically. Una is on by default and you can switch it off. There's no per-resolution charge.
Does StayUpfront have live chat?
No. Support comes in as tickets through the inbox and the customer portal. If live chat is essential, Intercom or Crisp is the better fit.
Can customers see their own tickets?
Yes. Customers log into your branded portal and see every ticket their company has raised, alongside your docs, changelog and status.
What is a customer contact?
In our pricing page's words: someone on the other end of a ticket, a portal login or a status subscription. Your own team is never counted.
